Eric Munoz has represented the 21st Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2001 He served as the Republican Deputy Conference Leader since 2006.
While in the Assembly, Eric served on the Health and Senior Services Committee and the Human Services Committee where he was among the state's strongest health care advocates.
Eric was a practicing trauma surgeon, administrator and professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He served on the National Institutes of Health Committee since 2002. From 1990-2001, he served as Chairman of the New Jersey Medical Practitioner Review Panel, where he was first appointed by Governor of New Jersey James Florio in 1990 and reappointed by Governor Christine Todd Whitman in 1995.
Eric started his political career in his hometown of Summit where he served on Common Council from 1996-2001. He also chaired the Summit Republican City Committee for 6 years.
In 2001, he was elected to fill an unexpired term as Assemblyman in the 21st Legislative District to succeed Kevin O'Toole and was elected to a full term later that year. "Doc" Munoz to many of his friends was a warm, caring man who never lost his sense of humor and could rarely be seen without a smile.... or a trademark bow tie. He was tireless in his commitment to health care as well as his elected office. It was not uncommon for Eric to work late at UMDNJ in Newark, drive to Trenton the next day for Assembly business and then back to Summit that night to be with his family.
Eric leaves behind a wife, daughter and 4 sons.
